FA will probe fans' Mido 'abuse'
Mido
Mido scored in Boro's 2-2 draw against Newcastle on Sunday
The Football Association is to investigate claims of abuse directed at Middlesbrough striker Mido by Newcastle supporters in last weekend's derby.

The Egypt striker, who joined Boro in the summer transfer window, faced barracking from the travelling Magpies support during the 2-2 draw.

"We will contact the clubs and get their views of what happened," an FA spokesman told BBC Sport.

"We will also look at the quotes from the player and take it from there."

Mido, who scored Boro's first equaliser, responded to the chanting: "Maybe some of them were drunk or something."

"I heard it, it was very clear and I understood what they were saying.

There is a line and that line was crossed at the weekend

Gareth Southgate
"The chants made me want to score more goals. I was delighted to score and I wanted another."

Boro boss Gareth Southgate added: "I find it strange that 3,000 people can insult someone in that way when nothing's happened.

"All players accept that when they go on the field of they will be ridiculed and people will try to goad them.

"But there is a line and that line was crossed at the weekend."

Southgate conceded his striker had reacted to the crowd but insisted the club were fully supportive of him.

He added: "He is a human being and he reacted. But I am very much in his corner and we want to draw a line under it."
