Carroll has been rewarded with a four-year deal |
Newcastle have tied up the future of one of their brightest prospects by agreeing a four-year contract with teenage striker Andy Carroll. The 18-year-old has made five substitute appearances for the first team this season and scored a hat-trick for the reserves at Middlesbrough.
Carroll said: "I am delighted to sign the new contract and I hope to have a great future at Newcastle United.
"It has always been my dream to play for the club as a local lad."
Chairman Freddy Shepherd will hope Carroll can follow in the footsteps of fellow Geordie Alan Shearer, after emerging from the ranks like locally-produced talent such as Steven Taylor, Peter Ramage and Paul Huntington.
