Onyewu wants to impress his new manager |
Newcastle United's on-loan defender Oguchi Onyewu has said that he wants to make his mark in the Premiership. Onyewu, 24, is in the squad for Saturday's clash at Fulham and is hoping to play some part in the match.
"I'm here to make an impact on the team," he told BBC Radio Newcastle. "I want to impress the coach."
"I signed professionally in 2002 always with the intention of playing in the Premiership. It's taken me five years to make it happen."
However, the Standard Liege defender refused to comment whether his move would become permanent once the loan deal ends at the end of the season.
USA international Onyewu appeared in all three of his country's matches at the 2006 World Cup and was voted the US Soccer Athlete of that year.
