Luque has failed to make an impact on Tyneside |
Newcastle caretaker boss Glenn Roeder has told forward Albert Luque to cheer up in order to win back a place in the first team at St James' Park. The 27-year-old Spain star, who joined in the summer for 9.5m, went back to his home country for a week after he was left out of the last two squads.
"It's no good him going around with a long face. We want players that are happy," said Roeder.
"Now Albert has come back we are trying to bring him back into the fold."
Luque chose to voice his dissatisfaction about his time at Newcastle to the media while he was back in Spain.
"The truth is, if you don't go to Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool or Manchester United, the other English teams play a direct game with force," said the former Deportivo la Coruna player.

"Talent is not what Newcastle want at the moment. The only thing they want is those who run 100% and forwards who fight for direct balls from the defenders."
Roeder retaliated by saying the tactics employed during Saturday's 2-1 win over Aston Villa were a far cry from the "direct" style Luque was suggesting.
"Albert has not taken any liberties with his comments and they are very controlled," said Roeder.
"Yet for him to say I only want runners and high balls is simply not true, as anyone who was at Aston Villa will testify. I don't want that kind of football and neither do the Newcastle fans."
