Anelka joined Fenerbahce in the January transfer window |
Fenerbahce have insisted that striker Nicolas Anelka will not leave the club. The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to Newcastle, but Fenerbahce vice-president Nihat Ozdemir insisted the Frenchman was staying put.
"No offer has been made to the player or ourselves. We didn't buy him to sell him. We're going to have big successes in Europe with Anelka," he said.
"We constantly aim to improve our squad and we won't sell Anelka. Whatever the offer, we won't let him go."
Anelka has distanced himself from reports which suggested he was "desperate" to join Newcastle.
"I haven't received any offer," said Anelka, who has been with the Turkish club for six months.
"I've said many times before that I'm happy here. Those who want me in their teams forget I have a club - Fenerbahce."
The Fenerbahce striker added: "If they did, they'd know that an offer should be made to my club, not me."
Anelka's stay in Turkey has not been the success he had hoped for after leaving Manchester City during January's transfer window.
Anelka had spells with Arsenal, City and Liverpool and has also played for Real Madrid and Paris St Germain, but he has rarely left a club on good terms.
Souness needs a new striker to replace Craig Bellamy and Patrick Kluivert, who have left for Blackburn and Valencia respectively this summer.
