Newcastle defender Steven Taylor has signed a new four-year contract with the St James' Park club. The England Under-21 centre-back agreed improved terms and praised boss Graeme Souness for helping him to develop.
"I was promised a new contract once I'd played a certain number of games, and I'm delighted to be tied down," Taylor told the club's official website.
"The gaffer has been magnificent with me, he's probably the main reason why I have this contract now."
Souness said he was "delighted" by the news.
"Steven is going to be a real star and I think all the supporters will be pleased to hear this," he said.
"I've said before that the only two things that could stop him going all the way are if he gets a big head on his shoulders or suffers a bad injury."
