Carver was in charge of Newcastle against Blackburn |
Former Newcastle coach John Carver is in talks with the club about a return. Carver, who was caretaker manager of Newcastle in Saturday's win over Blackburn, was told a day later he was not needed by new boss Graeme Souness.
But Carver told BBC Radio Five Live: "I have been to the club and they have hit me with a job proposal.
"I don't want to go into too many details but I've got to go back in on Wednesday to speak to the club and see what the situation is."
However, Carver said he had also received calls from several other clubs.
"In the last 24 hours I've had three or four calls - and there are one or two clubs after me," he added.
"It is something I have to think about. I do have ambitions to be a manager and after having a taste of it on Saturday it is something I certainly want to do."
Carver had been on Newcastle's coaching staff since 1991 and admitted it was a wrench to leave the club.

"It was a dream come true for me to manage the team I've supported all my life against Blackburn," he revealed. "Then to come in on Sunday and find out there's not a job for me on the senior staff - it's a sort of numbness and emptiness.
"But that's football and you can't afford to bear any grudges."
Souness, who took over officially on Monday, brought in his own backroom staff of Dean Saunders, Alan Murray and Phil Boersma from Blackburn.
David Geddis and Kenny Wharton also had their contracts terminated at St James' Park.
But former player and reserve team manager Tommy Craig has been kept on.
