Elliott has endured a frustrating couple of years |
Newcastle defender Robbie Elliott is delighted to be back in action after spending last season kicking his heels on the touchline. Newcastle's injury crisis led to Elliott being recalled by the Magpies in central defence for the 2-2 draw at Middlesbrough on Saturday.
It was the 30-year-old's first Premiership game since 1 January 2003.
"From a personal point of view, it was great to be back playing again," he told the club's website.
"It is obviously frustrating when you're training all week and not involved on a Saturday.
"It's been a long time coming. We've had a lot of injuries at the back and the eye infection hasn't helped either.
"But it opened up the door for me to come back in and it was good to get a chance again.
"Hopefully there'll be a few more chances in the weeks to come."
