Robson still has faith in Cort |
Newcastle striker Carl Cort is set to remain on Tyneside after Sir Bobby Robson disappointed promotion-chasing Wolves and Norwich on transfer deadline day. Thursday was the final day of the season for Nationwide League clubs to boost their squads and Wolves' Dave Jones was followed by Norwich's Nigel Worthington in showing an interest in Cort.
The 25-year-old, who cost 7m when Robson landed him from Wimbledon, has made three appearances for the Magpies so far this season and only one start.
But Newcastle have seven games left in which they might still win the Premiership and will hope to at the very least secure qualification for the Champions League.
Skipper Alan Shearer with Craig Bellamy is the first-choice partnership up front for Newcastle with Shola Ameobi and Lomana LuaLua providing the back-up.
But with Michael Chopra having joined Watford on loan earlier in the week, Robson was reluctant to lose a man in whom, despite his injury problems, he still has faith.
