![]() | Saturday, 20 January, 2001, 11:33 GMT Asprilla seeks Newcastle return ![]() Asprilla tangles with Rivaldo in his Newcastle days Former Newcastle star Faustino Asprilla believes he can solve Bobby Robson's striker problems. Asprilla was a huge favourite with the Tyneside fans after signing from Parma for 7.5million in February 1996. He returned to Italy after two years in the North East. Although now 31, he believes he can be the answer to the present striker-crisis at St James' Park, with both Alan Shearer and Carl Cort being long-term absentees.
"I enjoyed my time very much at Newcastle. I love the fans and would like to end my career at United. "I'm very happy that Bobby Robson is the manager. I respect him because he is an important person in British football. "We can work together to take Newcastle back to the top - and it helps that he speaks Spanish. "There's no place in the world like the Premier League in England. I miss the style of football, the crowds and the atmosphere. "I think football in the Premiership suits my style and I can't wait to play there again, hopefully with Newcastle. "I'm in excellent condition, the same as the last time I was with Newcastle. "I know I would have to work hard and play hard but I'm prepared for that. "Newcastle know I can score goals, lead the line and do a job." | See also: Other top Newcastle United stories: Links to top Newcastle United stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||
