Stuart McCall hails 'outstanding' Motherwell

Motherwell manager Stuart McCall hailed his team as "outstanding" after their 2-0 win over Celtic - but also warned they must improve their consistency.

"To a man, the players were absolutely outstanding for Motherwell Football Club," McCall told BBC Scotland.

"I'm proud of them and I'm proud of the result we've achieved.

"But we've got to look for consistency. We've got to make sure that level of endeavour is there against Inverness next Saturday."

John Sutton was the key man for Motherwell, with goals at the beginning of each half.

But McCall was particularly pleased with the team performance as a whole.

"It would be unfair to single out one player - they're all heroes," he said.

"To bounce back from the other night - where we lost to St Mirren, where we were really disappointed with the tempo and the effort - the effort from the first minute to the last was outstanding and we've beaten a very good side.

"I told them in the dressing-room after the match to enjoy tonight but then to start focussing on Inverness."

In February, Motherwell have won three and lost three in the Scottish Premier League and McCall wants that variation in form to come to an end.

"We can't be inconsistent," he said. "You can never guarantee results, but what you should always be able to guarantee is the effort and commitment.

"You might not always be having a good game - but as long as you give everything for the club.

"At times, we played some good stuff, which is pleasing against a team like Celtic.

"But today's result is nothing to do with me. It's the players and I'm very proud of them."

Motherwell now face a month on the road in March.

"We've got some crackers coming up. We play teams in and around us," added McCall.

"We've got Inverness and Kilmarnock away, Dundee United up there in the Scottish Cup quarter-final.

"Our destiny's in our own hands. We play teams who are all fighting for fourth, fifth, sixth, but a level performance like that certainly delights everybody."
