Black has been working with Scotland manager Craig Levein
Motherwell have made former Airdrie United boss Kenny Black their new assistant manager.
The 47-year-old has been coaching with the Scotland national team since he lost his job at the Diamonds in June.
"I've played here at Motherwell and know the place well," Black told the Fir Park club's website.
"The biggest attraction is getting back to working with the players and Stuart McCall on a day-to-day basis. We've got a really decent group of players here."
McCall has been at the Scottish Premier League club since the tail end of last year, overseeing four matches without an assistant.
And he said: "I am thrilled to have someone of Kenny's stature working alongside me and I am hopeful it's a partnership that will work well.
"Kenny has bags of experience and to have someone who works with the senior Scotland set-up is a massive bonus. He's a hard worker who I am sure the players will enjoy working with."
