Brown thought Cody Arnoux did well against Celtic's reserves

Everton pair Anton Peterlin and Cody Arnoux will remain at Motherwell next week as Fir Park manager Craig Brown weighs up a summer move.

The Americans featured in a bounce game against Celtic on Tuesday.

And Brown said: "They are good players and they are here for another practice match next week.

"If they maintain the promise that we've seen, they must be candidates for signing offers, although, obviously, we may have to compete to get them."

Arnoux, 21, was especially impressive in the 2-1 win over Celtic, earning Motherwell a penalty after being fouled by Thomas Rogne.

Motherwell have benefited from loan deals for Everton reserves John Ruddy and Lukas Jutkiewicz this season, with the latter likely to be kept on by Toffees manager David Moyes.

"In the event of perhaps the two loan players going back to Everton, we have started early looking at possible replacements," explained Brown.

"It just proves to the fans of Motherwell that we're not letting the grass grow under our feet.

"We might have to do a bit of negotiating to get them either on loan or there might be a transfer fee.

Brown admits the chances of keeping top scorer Jutkiewicz and Ruddy, who has kept 15 clean sheets in 30 SPL games, look slim.

The former Scotland manager added: "I'm not pestering him (Moyes) but every time I speak to him I say 'Come on, be kind and allow them to stay'.

"But I have very, very severe reservations about the prospect of them staying."

New York-born Arnoux joined the Merseyside outfit in August having previously played for Carolina Dynamo, who play in the fourth tier of the American soccer pyramid, the USL Premier Development League.

Peterlin, 22, who had played for USL Premier Development League side Ventura County Fusion during his collegiate off-season, had weeks earlier signed a one-year contract with the Barclays Premier League club.

Like Arnoux, the San Francisco-born Danish passport holder has yet to make his competitive debut for Everton's first team.
