Klimpl will still be under contract with his Danish club in the summer
Motherwell manager Mark McGhee hopes to keep Maros Klimpl after the Slovakian's loan spell from FC Midtjylland expires in the summer.
Klimpl, who has been a revelation since regaining fitness and moving from defence to midfield, will have a year and a half left on his Danish deal.
But McGhee said: "Maros is someone we would hope to keep in the long term.
"He's popular in the dressing-room, but he is also popular by what he is bringing the team."
Klimpl, who won an extended loan deal despite being sidelined by an ankle injury for almost three months after arriving at the end of August, is pleased with his recent progress but keeping his options open.
"I like it here, so we will see what happens," he said.
"I had to show my best in four games after four months out, so my form was not excellent.
On our day, I still think we're capable of going, if we get it right on the right day against Celtic or against Rangers, and giving them a bit of a doing

"But the manager trusted me and I want to pay him back.
"It's six or seven years since I played in midfield, but I started my career in this position. I'm really enjoying my new role."
Meanwhile, McGhee admits he is nervous about potential interest in his players as the closure of the transfer window draws nearer.
Top scorer Chris Porter has been linked with a move to Hearts, but McGhee says he is yet to receive bids for any of the players in the Fir Park squad.
"We've got no enquiries and no offers," McGhee told BBC Sport.
"I'm sitting with bated breath when the phone rings. It worries me. I can't do anything about it though."
McGhee is actively pursuing loan signings as Well seek to continue their unbeaten run of four matches.
"I'm still talking to people about loans, but we don't have the flexibility to think we can go and wheel and deal in the market," added McGhee.
"We've got to get lucky and maybe get a loan for someone we know that's going to fit the bill."
Meanwhile, McGhee says getting players back from injury has been the sole reason for his side's recent improvement in results.
Three wins and a draw have seen the Lanarkshire club move from second-bottom up to their current position of seventh.
"We suddenly went from having 10 or 12 recognised players training to having 21, 22 that week," McGhee said.
"To be back on the grass with a full squad to choose from has given everyone a huge lift, which has led to an improvement in form and, of course, an improvement in results," he said.
"That's all it has been. I've not done anything different. I've not suddenly come up with a magic formula.
"On our day, I still think we're capable of going, if we get it right on the right day against Celtic or against Rangers, and giving them a bit of a doing."
