Motherwell manager Mark McGhee praised the confidence of his players after their victory over Hearts in the Scottish Cup match at Fir Park.

"I thought we deserved our lead at half-time, and I think we thoroughly deserved to win the game," he said.

McGhee also stated his pleasure at his players bouncing back from the recent defeat at St Mirren.

"In 38 league games, you'll have your best game and your worst game and, hopefully, St Mirren was our worst."

"These boys are very modest lads, but they had a confidence about them, they've been playing well all season and they've every reason to feel confident," said McGhee.

"This was a massive result for us. They are a good team and to win through was very impressive.

"We managed to edge through and we are delighted with that," he added.
