Mark McGhee is looking for another striker |
Motherwell boss Mark McGhee feels he still needs reinforcements despite opening the Scottish Premier League campaign with a 1-0 win over St Mirren. "I'm pleased with the points and pleased with the way we started the game," he said.
"The second half was a bit scrappy, which maybe demonstrates that we need a slightly stronger squad, a centre forward that can hold it up for us."
The former Wolves boss is also looking for a goalkeeper and left midfielder.
McGhee is still considering a loan move for Celtic defender Adam Virgo.
"We need a centre forward to give the lads like Chris Porter, Ross McCormack and David Clarkson some respite if we are going to play that way," he said.
 | Jim Paterson took them in training and scored every one |
"We need another centre-forward on the bench."
McGhee promised Well fans they would see more of the attacking football that characterised their early play.
"We had six players that we feel are attacking players," he said.
"To come away and play like that you need to work hard enough in the other direction.
"Maybe that showed in the second half when players ran out of energy."
But Jim Paterson has been axed from penalty duties following his miss in Paisley.
"He took them in training and scored every one," said McGhee.
"But he missed today and he won't be taking them again."
