Malpas says he won't have pots of money to spend |
Motherwell manager Maurice Malpas has revealed he has the full backing of soon-to-be new owner Tommy Coakley. Malpas watched his side shut out Dundee United to record a goalless draw in their final league game at Tannadice.
Afterwards Malpas said: "I have spoken to the new owner and I have been told to get on with it.
"I have had great backing from the existing board and I have the backing of the new owner, which is all that really matters."
Property tycoon Coakley during is close to taking the North Lanarkshire club off the hands of current owner John Boyle.
Malpas has been under severe pressure in recent weeks and felt the full wrath of the Motherwell fans following last weekend's bitterly disappointing 3-2 defeat to St Mirren.
But Saturday's goalless draw in the Scottish Premier League was more
respectable, even if the game counted for little.

Malpas seems certain that Coakley will be his new boss, and believes he will
have the complete support of the new board, regardless of reports linking Gary
McAllister with Motherwell.
Malpas said: "I have spoken to the new owner and I have been told to get some players in and to get a team together who will be more consistent next season.
"I talked on the phone with him and there has been a lot of speculation so I
am just saying what he told me.
"It looks like the deal will go through and it is a case now of me going and
doing my job.
Despite Coakley being a multi-millionaire, Malpas confirmed he will not have a
vast sum of cash to splash during the summer months.
He said: "There is not pots of money so we can go and buy big-name players,
but we will be prudent and we are looking for some experienced players who have
been the course."
