Mark McGhee said he had not discussed individual players with Hamburg |
Motherwell manager Mark McGhee has distanced himself from reports he is poised to sign Hamburg's German Under-21 striker Mustafa Kucukovic. Hamburg coach Bernd Legien had indicated McGhee was keen to take the player to Fir Park on loan.
But McGhee told BBC Scotland: "When I spoke to (Hamburg general manager) Bernd Wehmeyer no names were mentioned.
"I've not discussed individual players with them. I've only sown the seed, saying we're interested."
Kucukovic made his Hamburg debut in September 2004 and has been on loan to Greuther Furth.

Legien told the Daily Express that the striker was on holiday and would discuss a possible move to Motherwell when he returned.
"We have not talked to the player yet and do not know if he wants to play in Scotland," said Legien.
"If he agrees then there's nothing to stand in the way.
"Mustafa is in the German Under-21 squad and was the youngest striker ever to play in the Bundesliga when he made his debut for Hamburg.
"He is tall and strong and has shown Hamburg he is capable of scoring goals."
McGhee, who is looking to bolster his squad for next season, stressed he had not discussed individual players with Hamburg.
"I've only sown the seed and they have replied saying 'if we can help you, we will help you'," said McGhee.
"I can absolutely assure you that I have had no discussions with that player."
