Well's McLean wants double reward
Terry Butcher and Brian McLean with their awards
Terry Butcher and Brian McLean received SPL awards
Motherwell defender Brian McLean is desperate to complete his move from Rangers to Motherwell before summer.

McLean, on loan from the Ibrox club, was named Bank of Scotland Young Player of the Month for March, while Terry Butcher was top manager.

"I'll be delighted whatever happens as long as I'm playing first-team football next season," said the 23-year-old.

"I think the negotiations are going quite well and I'll be quite happy to stay for the next two or three years."

McLean's Rangers contract is due to expire at the end of the season, but Rangers are due a compensation fee as he is under 23.
Terry has taught me no-nonsense at the back

"I'm leaving it open just now, but I hope it gets sorted out sooner rather than later so I can enjoy my summer holiday," he said.

Ironically, McLean is ineligible to face Rangers at Ibrox on Saturday because of a gentleman's agreement between the two clubs in his loan deal.

But he will be cheering on Motherwell from the stands as they strive for a win that could propel them into the top six of the SPL.

And he is full of praise for the role Well manager Terry Butcher has played in his development this season.

"Some people get opportunities, but being a defender at such a big club you need to bide your time, but nothing evolved for me at first-team level at Rangers," he added.

"Terry has guided me since I've come to the club and just the slightest things can make the biggest difference.

"He has taught me no-nonsense at the back - two touches and then clear it."
