Goalkeeper Francois Dubourdeau could have other offers |
Motherwell have offered a new deal to goalkeeper Francois Dubourdeau, who has been linked with a move to Coventry City. But striker Dirk Lehmann and midfielder Dougie Ramsey will be allowed to leave in the summer.
Goalkeeper Steve Woods is also moving on, along with forward Darren Jack and youngsters David Clarke and Iain Russell.
On-loan forward Richard Offiong will return to Newcastle United without a permanent offer, while defender Tony Vaughan heads back to Nottingham Forest.
But striker Steven Craig and 20-year-old defender Kevin McDonald have been handed a chance to stay, as has leg-break victim David Cowan.
I still hope to bring one or two new faces to the club Motherwell boss Terry Butcher |
The defender suffered a horrific injury in the 4-0 defeat by Celtic this month and the club have honoured Butcher's post-match promise that his contract would not be allowed to expire in the summer. Lehmann was surprised to be released. Despite the club being in administration, he had expected to be kept on and had already held discussions with the club about a new contract.
Butcher told his club's website: "Stevie Woods has decided to leave the club in view of the fact that I cannot guarantee him first team football.
"He's served the club for more than eight years and we all wish him well."
Butcher has been hampered by the fact he does not yet know which division Well will be playing in next season.
They are currently bottom of the Bank of Scotland Premier League and have just two games to catch Dundee United, who have a four-point advantage.
The day before the final fixture, a home game with Livingston, Motherwell will learn whether an application by First Division Falkirk to share a ground with Airdrie United has been accepted by the 12 SPL clubs.
A 7-5 vote in Falkirk's favour would see the bottom club in the SPL relegated.
"It has been a very worrying time for the players, who wanted to know what their future held for them.
"Most of us in Scottish football are now working within very tight budgets. But, depending on our league status, I still hope to bring one or two new faces to the club."
Interim administrator Bryan Jackson added: "Despite the financial climate, I and the directors will do everything we can to ensure that Terry and the coaching staff have as strong a squad as possible to meet the challenges it faces next season."
