Van Zanten played as a trialist for Morton against Partick Thistle

Morton have signed former Hibernian right-back David Van Zanten.

The 27-year-old, a trialist in Saturday's defeat by Partick Thistle, has signed until January.

Morton manager James Grady said: "He wants to play at a higher level, which we understand, but we've got him until the fourth of January for now.

"Hopefully, we may get the opportunity to extend that to the end of the season. We want to bring players in who have ambitions to go higher."

The Irishman spent five years with St Mirren before a season with Scottish Premier League rivals Hibs, after which he was released in the summer.

Now he joins the Cappielow side in their fight to escape the First Division relegation zone.
