McIlroy is proud of Morecambe's performances this season |
Morecambe manager Sammy McIlroy says taking the Shrimps into the Conference play-off final has given him one of his finest moments in football. The former Manchester United midfielder will lead Morecambe out at Wembley in the final on Sunday, 20 May after they overcame York 2-1 in their semi-final.
"This is one of the greatest days I've had in football," said McIlroy.
"I've been to Wembley before as a player and as a manager with Macclesfield but this is special."
McIlroy told BBC Radio Lancashire: "You can see just what it means to everyone around here. The fans are wonderful and this is a great day for them.
"I am delighted that we have been able to help them get a day out they will always remember at Wembley.
"I am proud of this team and their achievements. They have given me everything since I've been here and they fully deserve their success."
