Southgate's side lost their first home game of the season against West Brom
Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate has urged his players to show character following their 5-0 home defeat by West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
"That's the first time we've been in a situation where we're trailing at home, where we haven't defended collectively as a team," Southgate told BBC Tees.
"We've had a sledgehammer hit us - it was a really difficult afternoon.
"We've got to make sure our group are stronger after today. Everybody will want to have a go at us - bring it on."
He added: "We love that and it will make us stronger as a group.
"We've got to take our medicine. It was a painful afternoon but it's now how we go on and respond to it."
