Gareth Southgate has demanded that his Middlesbrough players show professional pride in their must-win Premier League game against Aston Villa on Saturday.
Boro's only hope of avoiding relegation is to win at the Riverside and hope their rivals for the drop do not win.
Southgate said: "We are where we are [in the relegation zone) because collectively we have not done enough.
"We have to show the hunger and passion to stay in this league. Any personal agendas have to be put to one side."
A number of players are expected to seek a move away from the Riverside in the summer including midfield duo Stewart Downing and Gary O'Neil and Turkish striker Tuncay.
But Southgate, who is coming to the end of his third season in charge on Teesside, says players planning to leave owe it to the club to remain professional.
"And everyone at this football club is our player until their contract runs out or we decide that we are prepared to accept an offer for them.
"Professional pride has to be foremost and you just have to remind the players of their jobs and professional obligations."
Middlesbrough will be relegated if they fail to win and Newcastle or Hull pick up at least a point from their respective games against Fulham and Bolton.
