Middlesbrough midfielder Mohamed Shawky faces three weeks on the sidelines with a thigh injury.
The Egyptian, who signed from Al-Ahly in August 2007, was an unused substitute in Boro's 1-1 draw against Blackburn last weekend.
Shawky, 27, is suffering from an intro-muscular haematoma.
"He's seen a specialist and the initial advice is for three weeks' complete rest," said Boro's head of medical, Grant Downie.
