Middlesbrough striker Afonso Alves has thanked the fans for the welcome he received at the Riverside on Thursday. The Brazilian international enjoyed a warm reception from supporters and hopes to repay the club by getting on the scoresheet as soon as possible.
"I will give all the warmth back and I will score in the future," Alves told BBC Tees.
"I'm really looking forward to playing here, I've seen how the atmosphere is over here I saw the last game."

Alves' strike rate is among the best in the world from his time in Holland and Sweden but the striker has asked supporters to remain patient as adjusts to life in England.
He said: "First I have to stay calm, it is a different league but I need to score.
"I'm a fast player, I love the counter-attacks and I love the free-kicks as well."
