Yakubu could leave Middlesbrough

Yakubu may leave Middlesbrough if an offer comes in
Middlesbrough striker Yakubu has hinted he could leave The Riverside, with Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp hoping to bring him back to Fratton Park.

Redknapp is pursuing the 24-year-old Nigerian after he left Portsmouth for Boro in a 7.5m move two seasons ago.

Yakubu said: "I am happy at Boro and I have never said I wanted to leave."

But he added: "In football you never know, anything can happen. If a big club comes with a very big amount of money, anything is possible."

Reports on Teesside suggest Middlesbrough would listen to offers for Yakubu if they are successful in the pursuit of another high-profile striker.

But Yakubu appears content to bide his time, saying: "I have some fantastic team-mates and the fans are great.

"Boro are one of the big clubs in England and we have the chance to challenge the top four and play in Europe every year."

Yakubu failed to find the net for Middlesbrough after the 2-1 win over Reading on 24 February.

That was his 16th goal of the season to add to the 19 he claimed during the previous campaign, when he once again endured a quiet finish.
