Viduka rejected a new contract offer from Middlesbrough |
Middlesbrough chief executive Keith Lamb says he is "disappointed" striker Mark Viduka has left the club. Viduka, 31, joined Newcastle on a free transfer on Thursday after turning down the offer of a new contract at Boro.
"The fans can be assured that everyone at the club did everything they could to persuade Mark to stay," Lamb told BBC Radio Cleveland.
"We tried to convince him that his future was here, but he has decided to go up the road to Newcastle instead."
The Australian striker scored 19 times for Boro last season, but cited the need for a fresh challenge as why he chose to leave the club after three years.
"We'll move on," Lamb continued. "Mark Viduka is part of our glorious past now, and it's not about what has happened in the past. It's about what we do in the future.
"I'm confident that Gareth Southgate will find a more than adequate replacement for Mark Viduka."
