Middlesbrough are mulling over a move for AZ Alkmaar's Gretar Steinsson. Boss Gareth Southgate has run the rule over the 25-year-old right-back but has yet to follow that up with a formal offer for the Iceland international.
"He's one of a number of players we've watched but we haven't got any bids in as yet for anyone in that position," Southgate told his club's website.
He is not chasing Boro old boy Geremi, now at Chelsea, or fellow midfielder Gokdeniz Karadeniz of Trabzonspor.
Geremi spent a season on loan at the Riverside in 2002 and is deemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea.
Turkish international Karadeniz has long been linked with a move to Teesside.
