Middlesbrough's chief executive Keith Lamb says Chelsea defender Robert Huth's move to the club is back on, reports BBC Radio Cleveland. The 21-year-old has had an operation on the ankle problem that scuppered his transfer to Teesside.
And he looks set to join on loan with a view to a permanent deal.
Lamb also said Boro made an undisclosed bid for Manchester City defender Sylvain Distin and are interested in Blackburn's Brett Emerton.
It is understood Manchester City are considering their offer for Distin, while any move for Emerton is at an early stage.
Boro have made an enquiry about the Australian but Rovers want him to sign a new contract at Ewood Park.
Centre-back Huth was set to join from Chelsea for �5m but failed a medical on 9 July because of an ankle injury.
However, Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate said they would monitor the situation with Huth and it appears they are keen to give him a chance to show he is over his problems.
Berlin-born Huth managed only 32 senior starts during his five years at Chelsea and just one of Germany's games at this summer's 2006 World Cup.
