Riggott signed for Boro from Derby in 2003 |
Middlesbrough defender Chris Riggott has signed a new four-year contract at the Riverside Stadium. The 25-year-old established himself as a first-choice regular in the centre of defence last season, and has committed himself to the club until 2010.
Boss Gareth Southgate said: "Chris has progressed particularly well over the last three years and was a big part of our European success last season.
"Now we are looking at him to force his way into the international set-up."
The former England under-21 international signed from Derby in January 2003 in a joint 3m deal with Malcolm Christie.
Riggott wore the captain's armband on several occasions last season and partnered Southgate in the heart of the defence.
