Boateng signs new Boro contract
George Boateng
Boateng missed out on a place in Holland's World Cup squad
Middlesbrough's Dutch midfielder George Boateng has signed a new three-year deal, which commits him to the club until the summer of 2009.

The 30-year-old would have been out of contract at the end of this month.

Boateng, who is not part of Holland's World Cup squad, told the club website: "It is such good news because this is the only thing that I have wanted.

"It has been a long time coming because I think it was last year when I began negotiations with the club."

Middlesbrough have yet to decide on a replacement for manager Steve McClaren, who will take over as England boss after this summer's World Cup finals, but they always insisted they were keen to hang on to Boateng.

And Boateng added: "Right from the start I made my feelings quite clear that I wanted to stay.

"I feel so happy - not only to be staying but because I have kept my word to the club and to those people, especially our fans, who had perhaps doubted I would stay."
