McClaren is to stick with Middlesbrough |
Steve McClaren has committed himself to Middlesbrough until 2009 after signing a new contract. But the 44-year-old refused to rule himself out of the running for the England coach's job and also underlined his desire to stay with the Teessiders.
"I don't speculate and don't comment on hypothetical situations," he said.
"All I'm concentrating on is taking Middlesbrough up the Premiership table and on the FA Cup tie against Coventry City on Saturday."
Although McClaren and chairman Steve Gibson had shaken on a deal in November, a "taxation issue" had held up the signing of the new contract.
"Myself and the chairman have had an excellent working relationship over the last four-and-a-half years," added the Middlesbrough boss.
"Last November we agreed on the deal to take me to 2009. That for us was as good as signing on the dotted line.
"There was a taxation issue, not a football issue, that needed sorting out."
