Steve McClaren was delighted for striker Massimo Maccarone after his brace helped see off Birmingham. "He has had a difficult time and the ability we saw was what he showed in the first 10 games when he arrived," the Middlesbrough boss said.
"He showed how tough he was, how committed he was and his quality. His second goal was magnificent and shows just what he can do.
"It was important to win to get into the top half of the table," he added.
