The Stags attracted 6,646 fans in a League Cup tie last season |
Mansfield Town have been boosted after an inspection from safety officials allowed them to raise the capacity of Field Mill from 4,684 to 6,553. The ground's capacity had previously been halved from 9,368 to 4,684 in May by Nottinghamshire County Council.
The Stags staged a friendly against Derby on Saturday, which they won 2-0.
"I am pleased the safety people accept there were no problems and are pleased with our new regime," chairman James Derry told the club's website.
"But I am disappointed that we are not yet up to the full capacity."
Mansfield's average home crowd last season was 3,176 - the highest gate being 6,646 in a League Cup tie against Portsmouth.
