Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says he may recall striker Frazier Campbell from his loan spell at Tottenham in the new year.

The 21-year-old moved to Spurs on transfer deadline day as part of the deal that saw Dimitar Berbatov move to United for a club record 30.75m fee.

"We could pull him back in January," said Ferguson. "We have the option and it is a possibility.

"He is a good player but we needed to get him first-team experience."

Campbell has scored three times in two games for Spurs and also netted for England Under-21s in their victory over the Czech Republic at Bramall Lane on Tuesday.

Ferguson will be without Berbatov for two games after he picked up a hamstring injury on international duty.

Prior to his move to Spurs, Hull tabled a 7m bid for Campbell, following his loan spell with the Tigers last season.

Campbell spent seven months with them and scored 15 league goals as they gained promotion to the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Ferguson has pencilled in Paul Scholes for a return early in December.

The former England star has been out since suffering knee ligament damage against the Danish outfit on 1 October.

"He will be ready for the week of the Tottenham game," said Ferguson, referring to United's fixture with Spurs on 13 December.

"He has started to involve himself in some of the first-team training sessions because, as always with that type of injury, he has made good progress.

"It will be a few weeks yet but he is not far away now."
