Ferguson was furious with Dean after his side's 4-3 victory at Old Trafford
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been handed a two-match touchline ban and fined �10,000 after admitting a charge of improper conduct.
Ferguson, 66, came on to the pitch to remonstrate with referee Mike Dean after United beat Hull on 1 November.
The ban starts on 2 December and covers the Carling Cup game with Blackburn and the league match against Sunderland.
Ferguson's admission of the charge and previous disciplinary record were considered by the Football Association.
The Scot is allowed to talk to his players before the game and in the dressing room at half-time but during the match he must not sit in or behind the dug-out area.
He can have telephone contact with his staff and is permitted to have a runner relaying information.
Ferguson had claimed the FA was "dying" to send him a letter after he was charged.
"I have no reaction because I have not read the charge yet," he said on 7 November. "I am a bit surprised. But this is the FA. They were probably dying to send me a letter."
Ferguson marched on to the field immediately after the match at Old Trafford to remonstrate with the official and was given until 19 November to respond.
He was thought to be upset that Dean, having already booked Michael Turner, did not send the Hull defender off when he up-ended Michael Carrick in the second half.
United were 4-1 up at the time and, to compound Ferguson's frustration, Dean then awarded Hull a penalty for Rio Ferdinand's challenge on Bernard Mendy.
Manchester United's players became increasingly irritated and Wayne Rooney escaped a sending off when heavy challenges on George Boateng and Andy Dawson resulted in only one booking.
Last season Ferguson was involved in three high-profile incidents with referees, two of them after matches against Portsmouth.
At Fratton Park in August the 66-year-old was furious that Steve Bennett sent off Cristiano Ronaldo and then, after an FA Cup tie at Old Trafford in March, he labelled Martin Atkinson "a disgrace".
On the second occasion an improper conduct charge was not proven.
He did, however, serve a two-match touchline ban and was handed a �5,000 fine for a rant at referee Mark Clattenburg at half-time of the match at Bolton - a game United went on to lose.
