Wes Brown has signed a new four-year contract at Manchester United.

Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed on Friday that Brown was one of three United players to agree a new deal, along with Michael Carrick and Rio Ferdinand.

"Manchester United is a fantastic club and I am delighted to have signed a new deal," said the 28-year-old defender.

"To be part of a team I have supported all my life is an honour. I can see us winning many trophies and it will be great to share in that success."

Brown's contract was due to expire in the summer and he had been linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

He has been a key figure for Ferguson's side in the absence of regular right-back Gary Neville and Newcastle made an attempt to sign him during the January transfer window.

The United manager added: "I am delighted Wes has signed a new contract.

"He has grown up at this club and is an integral part of the squad.

"He has done a great job during Gary's absence and has been a major factor in our outstanding defensive performance."
