Man Utd open Evra contract talks
Patrice Evra
Evra is now established in United's first team
Manchester United have begun talks over a new deal with France international defender Patrice Evra.

United chief executive David Gill has already signed Nemanja Vidic and Edwin van der Sar on new deals.

And Ferguson said: "David spoke to Patrice's agents, so he will probably fix up a meeting with them."

Evra, 26, was signed by boss Sir Alex Ferguson in January 2005 and is now first-choice left-back after a tough start to his career at the club.

He initially struggled to adapt to the Premier League after arriving for 4m from Monaco before establishing himself in the 2006-2007 season.

Evra overtook Gabriel Heinze in the left-back pecking order and was a regular as United claimed the league title last season.
