Scholes was a major doubt for the start of the season |
Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has made a quicker return to fitness than expected after playing in the 4-0 friendly win over Dunfermline. Scholes, 32, was injured during a pre-season game against FC Seoul in United's Asia tour and returned to England for exploratory knee operation.
But Scholes was in a strong United team at East End Park, that also included Owen Hargreaves and Ryan Giggs.
Scholes' involvement means he could play against Reading on Sunday.
United coach Mike Phelan said: "Paul has worked really hard, his injury is fine and he's in contention for the weekend."

Another United XI, including new signings Anderson and Nani, ran out 3-0 winners against Glentoran in Belfast on Wednesday.
Cristiano Ronaldo was not included in either squad but the winger is expected to shake off a minor ankle knock in time for United's Premier League opener.
