England midfielder Owen Hargreaves has hailed the influence of Manchester United midfield man Paul Scholes as Sir Alex Ferguson's side bids for a Treble.

Scholes has been in stunning form this season and Bayern Munich's Hargreaves told BBC Sport: "I think Paul would be able to get into any team in the world.

"He's good enough for Brazil, Barcelona - anyone. He is so good that anyone who sees him play wants him in their team.

"When he gets on the pitch he runs the show, he is a great player to watch."

In the Champions League semi-final, first leg against AC Milan, Scholes set up Wayne Rooney's equaliser with an impudent flick over the defence using the outside of his right foot.

Hargreaves believes that typifies the way the 32-year-old - who will be suspended for the final if he is booked in Milan on Wednesday and United go through - goes about his football.

"That was just brilliant," said Hargreaves. "It's exactly what you want to see on such a big occasion.

"Really it is training ground stuff, that. Nobody is ever going to try that in a game, to be fair, and then he does that.

"He has just got such a great footballing brain. To do that and for it to come off at 2-1 down at home in the first leg - it is brilliant."

Scholes has rarely sought the limelight since he made his debut for the Old Trafford club in 1994, despite an illustrious career filled with honours.

Hargreaves believes Scholes' quiet nature and the fact that the Old Trafford midfielder avoids publicity means he is not as appreciated as he should be.

"I genuinely think that Paul Scholes is still an under-rated footballer," added Hargreaves, who played with Scholes for England before the United star retired from internationals after Euro 2004.

"A lot of it is because of the way he is, how quiet he is, the way he goes about his business.

"He is just quiet, a really nice guy. He is great to be around because he is so easy-going and he loves his football, too.
