Kuszczak could be Edwin van der Sar's long-term successor

The Baggies have said that if they are to part with the 24-year-old Pole, they want cash plus two unnamed players, one on loan and one on a permanent deal.

"United know the position. They have made us an offer but it is not what we want," said Baggies boss Bryan Robson.

"So that is still not a deal at this moment in time. It all depends on United now."

Last week United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said they were "in the process of tying up a deal" to sign Kuszczak.

But Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace denied this, saying there had been talks but "absolutely nothing has been agreed".

West Brom do seem to have made contingency plans for Kuszczak's departure, however, signing Switzerland's World Cup goalkeeper Pascal Zuberbuhler last week.

Ferguson has sent reserve keepers Tim Howard and Ben Foster out on loan to Everton and Watford respectively, but he needs to sign a back-up for first-choice keeper Edwin van der Sar.
