Ruud van Nistelrooy concedes he has lost his powers in front of goal. The Manchester United striker has scored just four times since returning in late February from a three-month lay-off with an Achilles injury.
"Before my injury, scoring prolifically always seemed completely normal to me, but I've realised it wasn't normal.
"Scoring a load of goals is routine for some strikers, but scoring absolutely all the time - as I did last season - is not normal at all," he said.
"It is something super-extreme.
"Now I know that the scoring powers I had last season were not normal."
Van Nistlerooy scored 30 goals in all competitions in 2003/04 and helped United win the FA Cup final with a brace.
But this term, in a stop-start campaign, he has found the net just 16 times and his misses in Saturday's FA Cup final against Arsenal proved costly as the Red Devils finished the season empty-handed.
