Sir Alex's players may benefit from a warm-weather break |
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has rejected an offer to go to South Africa in January to play a friendly against Orlando Pirates. Suggestions had been raised that Manchester United would fly to Africa immediately after their Premiership trip to Liverpool on 15 January.
The plan had been to spend a few days soaking up the sun before playing Johannesburg-based Orlando Pirates in a midweek friendly.
Ferguson did consider the proposal but after weighing up the pros and cons, including another league clash with Aston Villa on 22 January, has now decided against making the journey.
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has previously criticised long-haul trips for their detrimental effect on players' domestic performances.
