Magnier challenges Ferguson
Sir Alex Ferguson
Manchester United's joint-biggest shareholder has asked Sir Alex Ferguson to substantiate his claim to the racehorse Rock of Gibraltar.

John Magnier, who along with JP McManus owns 25.49% of United, went to the High Court in Dublin on Monday asking for more particulars of Ferguson's case.

The row, which co-incides with the Irish duo querying United's transfer policy, concerns the horse's stud fees.

The 'motion to comply' will be heard by a High Court judge on 16 February.

Magnier's solicitors say Ferguson's representatives have failed to provide the adequate information on three occasions which has resulted in him going to the High Court.

Meanwhile, Tuesday's racing at Taunton passed off without incident despite the threat of disruption by United fans angered at the involvement of Irish racing tycoon McManus in financial in-fighting at Old Trafford.

The Independent Manchester United Supporters' Association has urged fans to attend race meetings where McManus and Coolmore supremo Magnier have runners "so they can leave them in no doubt about what they think of their attempts to destabilise the club".

But reports that the Somerset track would step up security to combat the threat from fans proved unfounded.
