Man Utd fans back EGM
Sir Alex Ferguson
Manchester United fans want the club's major shareholders to face the public amid their feud with Sir Alex Ferguson.

John Magnier and JP McManus have threatened to call an extraordinary general meeting if he is offered more than a one-year contract extension.

And the pair have requested an inquiry into transfer dealings at Old Trafford, which has since been launched.

But vice-chairman for Supporters' United, Sean Bones, told BBC Radio Five Live: "Fans would welcome an EGM."

Magnier and McManus own a 25% share of the club compared with the 17% share by Supporters' United.

"There is a massive turnout of rank and field United supporters [in the wake of this]. It's as if Liverpool, Manchester City and Leeds were playing here," said Bones.

"Manchester United fans are absolutely livid about what is occurring. And John Magnier could find himself in an untenable position and may have to lose his shares in the long-term.

"If you own a company and all your customers loathe you, you haven't got a future."

Magnier and McManus own a 25% stake in United and sent a letter to United's board asking 63 questions about how the club is run.

But Supporters' United, which successfully opposed BSkyB's attempted takeover in recent years, is adamant it can win this time around.

Supporters' United accountant Duncan Drasgo said: "We don't want them [Magnier and McManus] involved in our football club. The best ownership is some sort of supporters' ownership.

"There's been concern about this issue for some time. This was exactly the trigger we were expecting to really kick it off.

"Our manager has been put under threat by people whose interest is not a football club but possibly a private argument over a race horse."

Ferguson is also involved in legal action with Magnier over stud rights to the racehorse Rock of Gibraltar.
