The former Atletico Paranaense star, who is being brought in to fill the gap left by left by Juan Sebastian Veron's departure to Chelsea, becomes United's fifth signing of the summer.

The 24-year-old joins Eric Djemba-Djemba, David Bellion, goalkeeper Tim Howard and Cristiano Ronaldo, who completed his �12.25m move from Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday morning.

Kleberson, who will become the first Brazilian to play for the Premiership champions, was granted a work permit on Monday enabling the �6m deal to be completed.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said he was "delighted" to have secured the Brazilian's signature.

"He is a young, athletic midfield player who can play in a number of positions.

"One of the reasons we sold Seba Veron was because we knew we were getting Kleberson - that shows how highly we regard his talent."

Ferguson attended Monday's work permit hearing to add weight to the application, which did not meet strict government criteria because Kleberson has not played in 75% of his country's internationals over the past two years.

"To be the first Brazilian to sign for United is special," said Kleberson. "This is the biggest opportunity of my life.

United won the Community Shield on Sunday, beating Arsenal in a penalty shoot-out with Howard excelling in goal, saving two spot kicks.
