Van Nistelrooy has become an idol at Old Trafford

Ruud van Nistelrooy wants to stay at Manchester United for the rest of his playing career.

The 27-year-old striker has been a huge success at Old Trafford and his spectacular form in the last nine games of the season, in which he scored 14 times, helped United overhaul Arsenal to clinch their eighth Premiership title.

"I can see myself staying here for the rest of my career," Van Nistlerooy told the Manchester Evening News.

"I want to win everything possible and make history with United."

The Dutchman has scored 79 goals in the 100 games since arriving at Old Trafford from PSV for �18m in 2001 but has his sights on an even bigger haul.

"What I really want is to get at least 150 goals - or more," he said. "For a foreign player to score that many times for Manchester United would be a truly remarkable achievement."

Van Nistelrooy also spoke of his relief at winning the title after United's trophyless season last year.

"What happened to us last season was a total sickener for me," he added. "I'm not used to a season finishing without a trophy and it felt bad. I felt I had missed something."
