Moggi: Beckham 'is liked more by women than me' |
Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi has dismissed suggestions that his club would be interested in signing England captain David Beckham from Manchester United. "He is liked more by women than by me," Moggi told Italian weekly Contro Campo.
"I don't think that he is a phenomenal player and I don't believe he will come to Italy.
"I don't think he is someone who will change your team."
Moggi's comments come ahead of Juve's Champions League match against United in Turin on Tuesday.
Beckham's recent clash with United manager Alex Ferguson has renewed speculation that he could be on his way to either Italy's Serie A or Spain's La Liga.
But Moggi's comments come hot on the heels of Italy's AC Milan - one of the few clubs big enough to consider signing Beckham - also denying that they would be interested in him.
When he was asked on Saturday if he would be interested in Beckham, Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti said: "I really don't think so.
"He is not my ideal player, if that is what you want to know.
"With Beckham we would have to modify our system of play and that is not part of our plans."
Milan had an approach for Beckham rejected by United in July 2000 but have been linked with the midfielder every time his future at Old Trafford has been brought into question.
Moggi said if Juventus did make a major signing in the close season it would likely be a defender.
