Veron's Goal of the Week
Juan Sebastian Veron's first Premiership goal for Manchester United is BBC Sport Online's goal of the week.

Manchester United may have made what Sir Alex Ferguson called a stuttering start to the season, but they moved into top gear in style against Everton on Saturday.

And no player was more impressive for the champions than Veron, who produced a breathtaking midfield masterclass to help United dominate most of the game.

The goal was just one of many sublime Veron moments in the first half.

Veron was marvellous, top drawer

Andy Cole received the ball about 40 yards out on the right and squared it to Veron.

With his first touch, the Argentine moved it forward to Roy Keane on the edge of the area.

The United captain played a one-two with Veron, who charged through the Everton defence, taking the return ball on his chest before firing with venom past Paul Gerrard in the Everton goal.

Ferguson was positively purring with admiration after the match.

"I thought he was marvellous, top drawer," the Manchester United manager said of his record signing. "He's a great player and I'm really pleased with him.

Juan Sebastian Veron celebrates his first Premiership goal
Veron's goal was the icing on a sublime performance
"He and Keane set such a standard of control in the midfield that it was hard for Everton.

"He's had five years in Italy and he's come from a type of football which is ideal for the English game.

"The quality of defending in Italy is very good. He's had to play at that level for five years so coming to us is not a problem.

"Our supporters are good at building up heroes, but Seba is exactly the kind of player they love."

After a man-of-the-match performance that also included a dipping 35-yard volley that was only just saved, a David Beckham-style free-kick and a balletic pirouette-flick that sent Luke Chadwick free on the wing, it is not hard to see why.
